I am thrilled to announce the release of WP Swiper version 1.1.0, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of our plugin. This version brings about a major refactor of the codebase, transitioning from Class Based components to functional components. The primary motivation behind this refactor stems from the challenges posed by WordPress’s lack of support for class-based code in Gutenberg blocks, especially when dealing with deprecated save functions.
This transformation was not initially planned but became a necessary undertaking to ensure the correct functioning of deprecation. The need for this change surfaced when introducing a new approach to deliver configuration parameters from the backend to the frontend. While the existing method using data attributes was convenient, the growing number of configuration options prompted a migration to JSON. In upcoming releases, you can expect to see a shift towards a JSON configuration, with data attributes being deprecated.
For those who prefer the older version of the plugin, version 1.0.34 is still available for download from the WordPress plugin repository.
New Features and Enhancements
1. Slide Reordering in Document Overview
One of the notable additions is the ability to fix the slide reordering bug within the Document Overview (Left Sidebar). This feature streamlines the process of reordering slides without the need to recreate them, providing a convenient way to adapt to new requirements.
2. Support for Custom Thumbnails
WP Swiper now offers enhanced control over thumbnails. In previous versions, thumbnails were automatically generated based on slide content, limiting user control. Version 1.1.0 introduces the capability to add custom thumbnail images, giving users greater flexibility and customization options.
3. Custom Slide Navigation Icons
This release empowers users to load custom icons for slide navigation, allowing for a more personalized slider experience. While the default setting doesn’t permit SVG icons, users can activate this feature to use SVG instead of images. Future releases will further refine SVG usage, addressing limitations related to color changes.
4. Two New Slider Styles
To add a dash of flair to your website, WP Swiper now includes two new slider styles. Detailed instructions on how to incorporate and configure these styles can be found on the Digital Apps Blog.
